We Made it a Tough Week for AIPACMarch 5th, 2013
Poor AIPAC. Last week, the Senate confirmed Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense over the strenuous objections of the Israel Lobby. Then the sequestration hit, knocking an estimated $250 million off of Israel’s military aid package.
And all that happened before we all sprang into action to Expose AIPAC during its annual policy conference!
On Saturday, member group Interfaith Peace-Builders ran a Grassroots Advocacy Training, attended by several hundred activists, with amazing speakers and great skills-building workshops.
On Sunday and Monday, member group Code Pink spearheaded dramatic direct actions outside of the AIPAC conference including this demonstration in solidarity with Palestinian hunger strikers.
Just as those actions got underway, we launched a new ad campaign with Visualizing Palestine featuring these stunning infographics calling on the United States to end military aid to Israel and highlighting the budgetary trade-offs of providing weapons to Israel instead of funding unmet community needs.
Our mobile truck ad circled AIPAC’s conference for the past two days and will follow AIPAC attendees as they lobby today on Capitol Hill, while ads such as the one below went up in Washington, D.C. Metro stations yesterday.
Check out all of the great media coverage our ad campaign has received already.
But that’s not even close to all that our coalition did to challenge AIPAC.
On Sunday, member group Jewish Voice for Peace launched this complementary ad campaign on the streets of Washington, D.C. and in the metro.
And yesterday, The Hill—an influential Capitol Hill publication—published this op-ed by our National Advocacy Director Josh Ruebner slamming AIPAC for lobbying for more weapons to Israel while millions of Americans suffer the effects of the sequestration. Be sure to add your comment to this article and spread the word about it.
Also, yesterday, we organized a grassroots lobby day with member group Fellowship of Reconciliation to counter AIPAC’s agenda of endless warmongering and support for Israeli apartheid.
AIPAC may have wrapped up its annual policy conference today, but you can help keep our message to end aid to Israel up in Washington, D.C. Metro stations for a lot longer.
Thank you for all of your support to counter AIPAC’s agenda and a big congratulations to all of our member groups who helped us Expose AIPAC!
