Qana Massacre


Qana, Ten Years Later
On April 18, 1996, Israeli forces shelled the UN compound in Qana, Lebanon during its military operation, "Grapes of Wrath." The compound provided refuge for nearly 600 Lebanese civilians during the attack. The shelling left 106 civilians and more than 300 injured, marking one of Lebanon's bloodiest massacres.

Chapter 18: The Massacre
Robert Fisk is an internationally recognized journalist for the Independent of London. In his book, Pity the Nation, Fisk recounts the countless wars that tore Lebabnon apart. Chapter 18 of the book is dedicated to the Qana Massacre, where Fisk saw "more blood than [he] had ever seen before."

On the 10th Anniversary of the shelling of the U.N. compound in Qana, the family members of Qana victims, along with a human rights attorney litigating the case against Moshe Ya'alon and Congressman John Conyers', Jr. (D, 14th-MI) demanded Israeli accountability to human rights and Internationl law on Capitol Hill.

Israeli Accountability Campaign

The Israeli Accountability Campaign seek to use the pending law suit agaist Moshe Ya'alon as a tool to educate and mobilize legal and social justice communities nationally and to demand that the Bush Administration hold Israel accountable for its war crimes.

What is the Israeli Accountability Campaign?
The Israeli Accountability Campaign (IAC) seeks to build upon the existing law suit against former Israeli military official Moshe Ya'alon alleging that he committed war crimes for his role in the 1996 Qana massacre. The IAC draws a connection between Israel's attack in 1996 and July 2006 and provides advocates with an organzing packet to both educate and mobilize their communities to demand Israeli Accountability for both attacks against Lebanese civilians in Qana.

Letter to your Congressperson
Write to your Congressional representative and urge them to conduct an Arms Export Control Act Investigation into whether US-supplied arms were used in Israel's attacks agaist Qana in 1996 and 2006. Also encourage your Senators to support Senator Fenstein's forthcoming legislation to prohibit federal funding for cluster bombs.
