September 24th Mobilization a Huge Success!

Thousands march to end the occupations of Iraq and Palestine.
September 24th, 2005

An estimated 200,000 to 300,000 protestors converged on Washington, DC over the weekend of September 24-26, 2005 to demand an end to the war in Iraq.  The march and rally were organized jointly by United for Peace and Justice and the International ANSWER coalition.

Nearly 200 people gathered at Farragut Square for a Palestine rally and feeder march.  The rally was MC-ed by US Campaign Steering Committee member Huwaida Arraf and US Campaign staff member Noura Erakat.

The US Campaign's Palestine tent was full of energy with more than 10 organizations tabling including the Council for the National Interest, Partners for Peace, Fellowship of Reconcilliation Interfaith Peace Builders, the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, If Americans Knew, the International Solidarity Movement, and the American Friends Service Committee.  We had a jam-packed schedule of teach-ins, music, and food that drew people into the tent and allowed us to get signed several thousand Caterpillar Campaign postcards calling on CEO James Owens to stop Caterpillar bulldozer sales to the Israeli army.

The US Campaign was represented well on the main stages with Steering Committee member Mohammed Abed representing the Palestinian struggle from the main rally stage.  Click here to read Mohammed Abed's speech.  Additionally, staff member Josh Ruebner delivered a financial pitch and Kymberlie Quong Charles MC-ed the evening portion of Operation Ceasefire: A Concert to Stop the War in Iraq.

Thank you to everyone who support the organizing of this imporant mobilization by volunteering your time, providing financial support, and by marching with us.
