March 16 National Day of Action for Rachel Corrie
March 16th, 2004
March 16, 2004 is the one year anniversary of the death of Rachel Corrie. Rachel was a 23 year-old U.S. peace activist who was killed by an Israel Defense Forces bulldozer while trying to prevent nonviolently the demolition of a Palestinian house in the Gaza Strip on March 16, 2003.
The US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation is calling for a national day of action on March 16 to commemorate Rachel, the ideals for which she stood, and the policies that she protested. For more information on Rachel, please see: http://www.rachelcorrie.org.
What You Can Do on March 16:
1) Organize a vigil to remember Rachel Corrie and let us know about it. You can post your event to our website at: http://endtheoccupation.org/calendar_input.php. When entering information, select "Rachel Corrie National Day of Action" from the drop-down menu titled "select event type".
2) Fax, call, and/or email your Member of Congress and ask them to sign on as a cosponsor to H.Con.Res. 111, the Rachel Corrie Resolution. This resolution calls upon the "United States government to undertake a full, fair, and expeditious investigation into the death of Rachel Corrie." The full action alert can be found at: http://www.endtheoccupation.org/article.php?id=83
3) Get organizations to endorse a petition that the US Campaign will deliver to each Member of the House of Representatives on March 16 urging the House to take action on the Rachel Corrie Resolution. Organizational endorsements must be received by Sunday, March 14 to be included in the petition delivered to the House of Representatives.

One year has passed since Rachel Corrie, a 23 year-old American peace activist, was killed by an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) bulldozer while trying to prevent nonviolently the demolition of a Palestinian house in the Gaza Strip.
On the anniversary of her death, we ask you to cosponsor House Concurrent Resolution 111, the Rachel Corrie Resolution, and do everything within your power to facilitate the passage of this resolution.
H.Con.Res. 111 calls upon the "United States government to undertake a full, fair, and expeditious investigation into the death of Rachel Corrie." This investigation is necessary because of contradictions between the results of an IDF investigation and eyewitness accounts of her death.
Rachel Corrie was an American citizen killed by a foreign army and a U.S. investigation is necessary to determine the circumstances of her death and ensure that this type of incident does not happen again.
It is important to pay our respects to those American citizens who died to protect the values that make our country great. Rachel Corrie died protecting the home of a family from being demolished by the army of a foreign military occupation. In so doing, Rachel was defending such American values as freedom, dignity, and the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
