Last week the United States and Israel voted with such diplomatic heavyweights as Nauru and Palau against Palestine becoming a “nonmember observer state” at the United Nations. The vote —138-9—demonstrated that the United States and Israel now stand virtually alone  in continuing to deny Palestinians freedom and self-determination.

Despite dire warnings to Palestinians of new sanctions that would be imposed by the United States if the vote took place, U.S. punishment so far has not materialized. Last Friday, the State Department confirmed that no new sanctions would be “automatically triggered” under existing legislation.

Even more surprisingly, three anti-Palestinian Senate amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act were not voted on before its passage. These amendments, as we wrote in The Hill, sought to punish Palestinians, the U.N. and any country that voted for Palestine’s upgraded U.N. status.

With no new U.S. sanctions imminent, it’s time to turn our attention to holding Israel accountable for deploying U.S. weapons to injure and kill Palestinians in its latest ferocious attack on the Gaza Strip.

According to our friends at the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Israel’s attack last month killed 103 civilians, including 33 children. Yesterday, we sent Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a letter documenting how Israel used U.S.-supplied F-16 fighter jets to kill Palestinians like 4-year-old Mahmoud Sadallah, who died of shrapnel wounds from missiles fired from this aircraft.

Mohammed Omer wrote in The Nation that Mahmoud “was playing on the stoop of his home, well away from the main street” when he was killed.

“With emergency services strained, in a panic the young boy’s mother scooped him up and ran through the smoke-enshrouded streets, dodging dust and flames, screaming hysterically for help as blood poured out of Mahmoud’s head.”

Our taxes should not be funding Israel’s human rights abuses of Palestinians in violation of U.S. law. In our letter to Clinton, we call on the State Department to investigate Israel’s violations of the Arms Export Control Act and to hold it accountable for killing Palestinians like Mahmoud in our name.

But let’s be honest. The State Department probably isn’t going to investigate Israel’s actions, much less hold it accountable, just because we sent them a letter.

Rather, if they do, it will be because you demanded it. Join us in taking action to demand that Israel is held accountable for killing Palestinians and to organize to end U.S. military aid to Israel.

Sign this petition to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton demanding that the United States investigate Israel’s killing of Palestinians with U.S. weapons and hold Israel accountable.

Post this petition to your Facebook profile and tweet it to your Twitter followers. Help us get the critical mass of grassroots support we need to get the State Department to take action by spreading the word.

The average U.S. taxpayer will give Israel $21.59 in weapons this year. Take a stance against U.S. military aid to Israel by “offsetting” this amount and making a tax-deductible donation to the US Campaign to strengthen our work to end U.S. military aid to Israel.

Help raise awareness in your community about the moral and financial implications of providing Israel with military aid. Sign up today as a volunteer organizer to receive a packet of materials—postcards, petitions, flyers, fact sheets, stickers, posters and more—to educate and organize people in your city to end U.S. aid to Israel. When you do, you’ll join thousands of organizers in all 50 states and nearly 1,100 U.S. cities!

Learn more about why we need to end U.S. military aid to Israel by reading our policy paper, finding out how much money your community provides in aid to Israel and what that money could purchase for unmet community needs, and discovering the staggering amount of weapons we give Israel.

Thank you for taking action to hold Israel accountable for its killing of Palestinians like Mahmoud Sadallah with U.S. weapons paid for by us.

Sincerely,

Josh Ruebner, National Advocacy Director
