Do you like ice cream? Do you like justice? Answered yes to both? Well, here's the scoop!...

Ben & Jerry's produces delicious ice cream and prides itself on being a champion of "Peace" and "Love." But two years ago, Vermonters for a Just Peace in Palestine/Israel (VTJP) learned that the iconic company known for its social justice standards makes ice cream in Israel and sells it in illegal, Jewish-only settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Its franchise's party carts even cater privately to Israeli settlers.

TODAY marks the launch of an exciting campaign spearheaded by VTJP calling on Ben & Jerry's to end commercial dealings with Israel and Jewish-only settlements, stop manufacturing ice cream in Israel, and issue a statement calling for an end to the occupation. The campaign is not calling for a boycott of Ben & Jerry's [More info].

Ben & Jerry's is a standard-bearer in the socially responsible business community. It is a strong supporter of Occupy Wall Street, marriage equality, environmental justice, the GMO-labeling movement, labor rights, campaign finance reform, and other progressive causes. Its Social Mission commits the company to "eliminate injustices" and "support nonviolent ways to achieve peace and justice."

Since 2011, VTJP has been engaging with Ben & Jerry's, urging it to end its complicity with Israel's occupation and discriminatory practices. Now, two years later, business with Israel and its settlements continues as usual, prompting the launch of this important campaign.

Ben & Jerry's factory in Israel is located near the southern city of Kiryat Malachi, which was established in 1951 on land belonging to the Palestinian village of Qastina, destroyed in 1948. The factory uses precious water resources to make ice cream while Palestinians -- in Gaza, the West Bank, and the Negev (inside Israel) -- are denied equal access to drinking water in a grotesquely unjust water system in which Ben & Jerry's has now become a partner.
