We Need to Do More

Help Strengthen Our Work to Challenge Israeli Impunity

Dear Supporter,

I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on our work at the US Campaign.

When I joined the US Campaign in February, we were in the midst of the #SkipTheSpeech campaign, which was aimed at pressuring lawmakers to skip Netanyahu's speech before Congress. A few years ago, it's hard to imagine a single member would be willing to skip. When more than 60 Members of Congress skipped the speech, we knew it was a game changing moment.

Can you help us make the most of this historic opportunity to bring real and lasting change?

In the few months that I've been with the US Campaign, we've seen significant gains on Capitol Hill. Following the #SkipTheSpeech campaign we worked with our partners at the Chicago Faith Coalition to advance the No Way to Treat a Child Campaign. As a result of our collective work on the issue, 19 Members of Congress signed a letter to Secretary Kerry urging him to make the protection of Palestinian children a priority in the U.S.-Israel relationship. On Wednesday, we hosted a briefing on Capitol Hill calling on lawmakers to hold Israel accountable for its attacks on Palestinian civilians with U.S. supplied weapons, a flagrant violation of U.S. and international law.

This year I've also had the opportunity to bring our message to audiences across the country and the world while representing the US Campaign. We've been a leading voice in the national debate on issues ranging from Israel's election to last year's brutal attacks on Gaza.

In recent months, we've also been seeing momentous shifts in the cultural boycott and church divestment landscapes.

This past April, after a pressure campaign led by the US Campaign and others, eight-time Grammy Award winner Lauryn Hill cancelled her concert in Israel!

And just last month, our National Organizer Anna Baltzer was on the ground supporting the decision by the United Church of Christ to divest. Though we knew many in the church supported the move, no one could have predicted that an overwhelming 80% of delegates would vote in favor of divestment. It was an inspiring moment and resounding rejection of further complicity in Israel's denial of Palestinian rights.

While taking stock of our numerous wins over the past few months, there were numerous opportunities for successes we unfortunately were not in a position to capitalize on. What we have been able to accomplish is largely due to the tireless work of our dedicated full-time staff. Each achievement take months of preparation and behind the scenes networking, coordination, and effort. This also means that, today, at a moment when the environment is primed for our movement's growth, we are limited in our capacity to take full advantage of it.

We'd like to be able to do more to combat anti-BDS legislation, challenge new promises of additional military aid to Israel, advance intersectional struggles across social justice issues and expand BDS efforts into the world of sports.

Your donation today
will strengthen our ability to pursue a range of strategic campaigns. While we are limited in our staff capacity today, the good news is the climate has never been more ripe for continued success. We need your help to rise to the occasion and strike while the iron is hot!
