Demonstration For Palestine & Against War Profiteers
Saturday, June 4th 2005 1:00 PM
Charlotte, North Carolina
June 5 is the 38th anniversary of the day Israel’s “Defense” Army invaded Egypt and Syria, the Jordanian-occupied Palestinian West Bank including the Arab part of Jerusalem, and the Egyptian-held Palestinian Gaza Strip. Israel thus opened what was later called the “Six Day War” The Israeli government’s drive to conquer all of Palestine from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean coast, while cleansing it as much as possible of the indigenous Palestinian Arab people, still undermines any hope for true and lasting peace.
The U.S. Government gives Israel $1.5 million dollars a DAY to fund the illegal military occupation of Palestine as well as military hardware and diplomatic cover. This money could be used to fund human needs & create jobs here in the United States. International law guarantees the inalienable, fundamental, & legal right of return for refugees as embodied in Article 13 of the UN Charter On Human Rights. UN Resolution 194 of 1948 specifically states that Palestinians have the “right to return”. We will call for an end to the Israeli military occupation of Palestine, immediate halt to U.S. funding of the occupation, divestment/boycott of companies doing business with the Israeli Government and implementation of the Palestinian right to return.
We will gather at General Dynamics to protest their role as a maker of Weapons of Mass Destruction(WMD) and their partnership with RAFAEL Armament Development Authority Ltd., Ordnance Systems based in Haifa, Israel. “Charlotte-based General Dynamics Armament makes weapons systems, biological- and chemical-detection systems and mobile-shelter systems,” reports the Charlotte Business Journal. “Since its move to Charlotte, the company has received a contract worth up to $94.8 million from the U.S. Army for development and demonstration of a lightweight machine gun and a $127.5 million contract to manufacture sophisticated control systems for cannons that can fire rocket-assisted, GPS-guided ammunition. With engineering and development costs included, that project's total value is estimated at $170 million.”
