Israeli activist Devorah Brous is the founder of Bustan L’Shalom, a “pro-Israel, pro-Palestine, anti-war, and anti-Occupation” grassroots organization. Bustan (www.bustanlshalom.org) addresses issues of environmental justice in Israel. Bustan also raises awareness about the plight of indigenous and marginalized people and the systemic discrimination they face. Brous’ many years of work in peacebuilding, land rights, and human rights has included establishing schools and clinics for Jahalin Bedouins, as well as “Peace Grove” planting projects. Brous is an expert in the legal, political, environmental, and historical aspects of Palestinian/Israeli land claims. Most recently, Brous has been acting as camp director on the site of the Beit Arabia Center for a Just Peace, in Anata near Jerusalem. This project, spearheaded by the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions, has brought several hundred Israeli, Palestinian and international volunteers together to rebuild the home of Salim and Arabia Shawamreh and their seven children. Brous holds master’s degrees in Conflict Resolution and Israel Studies.
