LA Activists Plan to Demonstrate Outside FIDF Gala!

Activists Heartened by Stevie Wonder's Withdrawal Call Protest Outside December 6 L.A. Fundraiser for Israeli War Crimes

In recent days, thousands of activists around the world using social media, e-mail and phone calls persuaded performance artist Stevie Wonder to cancel his highly publicized performance at "Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces (FIDF) Annual Gala" fundraiser, which generates tens of millions for Israel's military machine, most recently responsible for the massacre and injury of hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza, many of them children.

With victory in hand, a diverse coalition from the Los Angeles area has now announced a protest outside the event itself.

WHEN: 4PM, Thursday, December 6, 2012

WHERE: Outside the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, 2025 Avenue of the Stars in Century City, L.A. 90067

Press Conference and Protest, details TBA.

The FIDF fundraiser still includes appearances by 16-Grammy-winner songwriter/producer “David Foster and Friends," with “Seinfeld” veteran Jason Alexander as Emcee. The annual event’s hosts, are Israeli hawks Haim and Cheryl Saban.

Electronic Intifada reports: 'FIDF director and CEO, Israeli army Major General Yitzhak Gershon expressed “regret” and claimed that FIDF is a ” non-political” and “humanitarian” organization. Gershon himself is implicated in war crimes committed when he commanded Israeli forces attacking Palestinians in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank during the second intifada.'
