Ask Ben & Jerry's to Put a "Freeze" on Sales to Settlements

Take Part in 3rd Annual Free Cone Day Protest April 14!

US Campaign member group Vermonters for a Just Peace in Palestine/Israel (VTJP) is once again calling for Palestinian rights activists to leaflet and protest outside of Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops during their annual Free Cone Day Tuesday, April 14

For the third straight year, VTJP is demanding the company stop the sale of ice cream by its Israeli franchise in illegal settlements built on stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Company executives in Vermont, as well as the franchise owner in Israel, have refused to end their commercial complicity with these settlements. Read VTJP's complete report and campaign updates on the company’s business dealings in occupied Palestine.

Many of you supported this action in 2014. Can you help again on April 14?

Leaflet at a Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop. Send a message on Free Cone Day to Ben & Jerry’s that doing business with settlements is NOT socially responsible. This year VTJP has designed a special leaflet inspired by the Palestinian Authority’s decision to press its case against Israel’s war crimes at the International Criminal Court. You may adapt this leaflet to promote the work of your local organization.
VTJP will provide printed leaflets to participating groups if you let them know by April 1. Send them an email at icecream@vtjp.org.

Perform a cantastoria on April 14 for the people in line. Free Cone Day is an excellent time for Palestine educational activities. A cantastoria is ideal for this. It is a set of drawings telling a story and a narrator who points at the images and performs or improvises around them. VTJP has prepared a series of drawings that can be reproduced by others – or you can make your own. Find more instructions here.

Ask scoop shop owners to get involved in the campaign. VTJP has written franchise owners to inform them of the campaign and upcoming actions and to call on them to urge Ben & Jerry's CEO to stop the sale of ice cream in settlements. The owners have also been informed that VTJP, after four years of communicating with the company, will now begin asking people to join in a boycott of Ben & Jerry’s. Here is the letter that VTJP sent recently. Please send a personalized copy of this letter from your organization, or use it as a template to write your own letter.
