Baltimore, MD: Tax Day Protest

Join the Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore on Thurs., Apr. 15—Tax Day at 5:30 PM at Baltimore's main post office on Fayette St. We will be leafleting to inform taxpayers that up to 50% of the budget goes to military adventures, past and present and that at least $3 billion per year goes to funding the illegal occupation of the Palestinians. College Park, MD: Your Tax Money to the Israeli Military?

Is the U.S. really "pressuring" Israel? What's the deal with Israeli settlements? What do they have to do with us? IPS Fellow Phyllis Bennis will discuss the recent flap between the Obama administration and the Israeli government, the $30 billion of U.S. military aid, and the changing discourse on Israel-Palestine across the United States. Phyllis Bennis is the author of Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A Primer. She is speaking as part of an event put on by the UMD Students for Justice in Palestine, called Palestinian Solidarity Week (April 12-19). It brings together students, activists, advocates, sympathizers, and humans and who are appalled at the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine and the illegal occupation of its people. PSW aims to raise awareness about the conflict at large, as well as highlight specific issues. Each day of the week will feature a different event or speaker.

Columbia, MD: The “Other” Gaza: The Gaza You Never Hear About, and Should

Pam Bailey spent 40 days trying to get into Gaza through Rafah, Egypt, then finally succeeded with the help of UNRWA. For the last five months, she has lived and worked in Gaza, sharing a local family's home, helping indigenous NGOs communicate to the outside world, writing for news services such as Truthout and InterPress Service, and volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement. Now she is back in the States, and she will share a view of Gaza that most people here don't hear about. This will be her first "report back."

Silver Spring, MD: Ahava boycott at Ulta Cosmetics Store
Saturday, July 17th 2010  10 am until 12 noon

THIS SATURDAY, JULY 17, join us once again from 10 am until noon in downtown Silver Spring (3 blocks up Wayne Ave. from METRO)for a peaceful, nonviolent demonstration urging the BOYCOTT OF AHAVA COSMETICS, made by West Bank settlers from natural resources stolen from the Palestinian people. PLACE: Ulta Cosmetics Salon, 914 Ellsworth Drive (On the pedestrian mall between Georgia Ave. & Fenton St., across from the Austin Grill). Ellsworth Drive is one block north of Wayne Ave. Note: The Wayne Ave. public parking garage, located directly behind the Ulta Cosmetics Salon, is free on weekends! We'll raise our placards and pass out flyers respectfully asking shoppers to join the international boycott of the AHAVA line of "stolen beauty" products, illegally produced by Israeli settlers colonizing the West Bank on land stolen from Palestinian families in violation of International Law.

Josh Ruebner, National Advocacy Director of the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, will give a presentation on U.S. aid to Israel (in all its myriad forms) and the implications of such aid.
